#MakingIt – Mashaba makes great strides in upholstery

Mashaba said ever since he ventured into his dream business, his troubles of life have reduced tremendously.

Up-and-coming Mashaba Upholstery Business has been making great strides in the Tembisa community.

Mr Nelson Mashaba, owner of Mashaba Upholstery Business based at Winnie Mandela Zone 11, has been making beds and covering lounge suites and cars seats for his clients in the area.

Mashaba said ever since he ventured into his dream business, his troubles of life have reduced tremendously.

“It is not a simple business, however, by hard work and dedication I am getting there,” added Mr Mashaba.

Since his business was established few years back, Mashaba has employed three people to date.

This 28-year-old man, originally from Maputo, said he learnt the practical work in upholstery during his secondary level.

“I’ve learnt art work at school and it was not difficult for me to launch into the business. Again, I was mentored by a certain businessman who helped me gain the knowledge in upholstery industry. Back at home, I was an entrepreneur doing lounge suites,” added Mr Mashaba.

Mr Mashaba said he only came to this country to expand his business.

“Without my business, I am nothing. It helps me survive and be able to support and protect my family. And it is not only about surviving, I am building a legacy for my family,” commented Mr Mashaba.

Mr Mashaba said since he came to this country with his business, he is highly regarded by everyone in the township.

“There is no week that I do not get orders, especially for beds. And I really appreciate the support that I have been getting in Tembisa. This business keeps my brain active,” added Mr Mashaba.

When asked his message to the young ones, Mr Mashaba said young people should behave themselves and look for the skills that will enable them to become entrepreneurs.
