ER24 ambulance involved in fatal accident in Edleen this morning

Two paramedics have been taken to hospital

AN ER24 ambulance has been involved in a fatal accident in Edleen this morning involving three other vehicles.

The accident occurred on Besembos Street close to Builders Warehouse.

The driver of one of the cars, who was alone in the vehicle, has been killed. He was declared dead on the scene. The deceased suffered multiple trauma.

According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS) spokesman William Ntladi, they received a call at around 8am, reporting the accident.

“Two cars were going west, while the other two were travelling east when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident is unknown and is under investigation by the metro police,” said Ntladi.

Ntladi said the vehicles involved in the accident included a BMW, which was carrying four passengers, a Toyota Tazz with one driver, who was declared dead at the scene, a Mazda 6 carrying one passenger, and an ER 24 ambulance with two  paramedics.

Russel Meiring, spokesman for ER24, said the two paramedics were on their way to an emergency when the accident occurred. Both sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital. He said an investigation will be launched into the accident.
