Fourteen-year-old motivates matrics

14 years old author motivates grade 12 learners in Tembisa.

A 14-year-old author gave an inspirational talk to motivate grade 12 learners on August 22.

Megan Werner is not only a writer but also is an exceptional public speaker.

The teenage speaker and author of a book called ‘It’s up to me’ took some time to come and speak to learners at Ingqayizivele High School.

She wrote the book when she was only 13 years old and as a result she has given talks in schools around Gauteng and at corporate events.

She said the book takes one through seven ways to make a difference.

“I was invited by ward 7 councillor Mr Thabag Jiyane to come and inspire grade 12 learners at the school,” said Werner.

“Megan Werner is one exceptional young speaker,” said Clr Jiyane.

“The learners were very welcoming and I received positive feedback and I am looking forward to visiting more schools in Tembisa,” Werner said.

She used various analogies to simplify and explain crucial values of making a difference in the world.

Games were also played to entertain the learners and teach more life skills.

Werner said she has already sold over a 1 000 copies of her inspirational book and had the privilege of speaking to audiences totalling 5 000 people to date.

“My book is going to be translated into Russian and Afrikaans. The foreword in my book was done by Robert Toru Kiyosaki,” said Werner.

The teenager takes after her parents, who are authors in their own right.

“My biggest aspiration in life is to be Miss Universe and I want to be on the Ellen DeGeneres Show,” she said.

Werner said aspiring young writers must have a mentor.
