A man was robbed of his money by police impersonators at Mashemong section on September 1.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the victim was in his room busy counting the money to buy stock.
The victim is a businessman who sells chicken heads and feet.
“Three men entered the yard, one wearing a police uniform, the second one wearing a police reflector jacket and the third one wearing civilian clothes,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.
He said the suspects, in possession of firearms, introduced themselves to the complainant’s sister as police officers and they said were looking for the complainant.
“They suddenly pushed everybody inside the room. They robbed him of cash, three cellphones and house keys.
“After the robbery they locked the victims inside the room and left with the key. One of the suspects who was wearing civilian clothes is known to the family.”
Captain Ralidzhivha said no injuries were sustained and no arrests have been made yet. Tembisa police are investigating.
Tembisa SAPS warned community members about bogus police.
“They are impersonating police. There was also a house robbery at Winnie Mandela on the same day where four people came to the house and robbed the occupant.”
He said the suspects were wearing police uniforms.
“All of them were brandishing firearms. Anyone who has information must come forward so that we can bring them to book.”
