Woman rescued after alleged kidnapping attempt
Officers were conducting routine patrols in Esselen Park at about 20:00 when they heard a woman screaming for help.
A 27-year-old woman escaped an attempted kidnapping in Thembisa on October 7 after running to a patrolling police vehicle for help.
EMPD media liaison officer Thabiso Makgato said officers were patrolling Link Road, between Esselen and Liliba near the dam, at about 20:00 when they heard a woman screaming.
The woman ran into the police vehicle and told officers that four men in a white Toyota Avanza had tried to kidnap her.

Officers pursued the suspects, who abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Two suspects ran into Emfihlweni Cemetery, while the driver and another suspect fled towards Esselen Park.
The suspects opened fire at officers during the pursuit and evaded arrest in the dark near the cemetery.
No officers were injured, and no arrests were made.
A case of attempted kidnapping and attempted murder will be opened at Thembisa SAPS.
The EMPD and SAPS are investigating and searching for the suspects and vehicle.

The EMPD appealed to anyone with information about the incident or the four men travelling in a white Toyota Avanza in Thembisa around 20:00 to come forward.
Makgato urged community members, especially women, to remain vigilant and avoid walking alone in isolated areas, open veld, and unlit streets at night.
Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or people to authorities.
“We condemn the continued targeting of women by violent and ruthless criminals. The EMPD will not rest until those responsible are brought to book,” said Makgato.
