Father arrested for child abuse

'The boy was standing next to the window inside the shack, which was locked with a chain and a padlock.'

A Tembisa father was arrested for abuse, on September 15.

Capt Neldah Sekgobela said the 35-year-old father was arrested in Vusumuzi squatter camp, after allegedly neglecting his eight-year-old boy by leaving him inside a shack all night.

“Tembisa South Police received information from the community and visited the address,” said Capt Sekgobela.

“On arrival the boy was standing next to the window inside the shack, which was locked with a chain and a padlock.

“The boy was allegedly left for the whole of Wednesday night without food.”

The father appeared before the Tembisa Magistrates Court on September 16, to answer charges of child neglect.

“The child has since been placed in a place of safety,” said Captain Sekgobela.
