Trio nabbed for drugs on the R21

The roadblock was part of the Ekurhuleni North Cluster's Safety Month campaign

POLICE arrested three men for drug dealing on Friday during a roadblock on the R21.

The three suspects, all Tanzanian nationals, were travelling in a white VW Polo when they were stopped during the roadblock.

According to Kempton Park police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and when they opened the boot, stumbled upon a large bag tightly wrapped with brown tape.

“When police officers unwrapped the package, they found compressed dagga inside,” Mtshali said.

The roadblock was part of the Ekurhuleni North Cluster’s Safety Month campaign, which saw police officials embarking on several roadblocks.

Kempton Park SAPS worked with other Ekurhuleni North police stations, including Tembisa, Norkem Park, Olifantsfontein, Rabie Ridge, Tembisa South as well as the vehicle theft unit of the SAPS.

Several motorists were issued fines such as failure to produce driver’s licences and other traffic offences during the stop and search.

The suspects, aged 24, 25 and 30, will appear in court for alleged drug dealing.
