Rosond (Pty) Ltd welcomed its first 10 students for its in-service training on Friday, September 23.
Rosond (Pty) Ltd provides drilling and grouting services for mining houses, operating mines, and junior mining and exploration companies.
Group’s human resource manager, Mr Jacob Matlou, said the 10 interns will be working in the plant for the next six months with a high possibility of permanent employment.
“It is the first time we are doing a programme of this nature. We are looking at continuing and making this an annual programme,” said Mr Matlou.
He said the company partnered with NPI Governance Consulting in identifying and sourcing candidates.
“Their data is specific to a company’s need. We hire students from around Tembisa. As a company, we are trying to uplift the community around us and expose students to a real working environment,” he said.
Mr Matlou said since the company is dealing with mining, they are looking at students who are studying mechanical engineering, geology, boiler making and welding.
The current intake of interns consists of three students in mechanical engineering, one in electrical engineering, one in logistics, one in public relations, one in human resources, two in geology and one in finance.
“Six interns are women and four are men. The primary objective of the programme is to give the interns experiential learning of in-service training to enable them to acquire their qualifications. In future programmes we can’t promise jobs but should there be a need, there could be placement,” said Mr Matlou.
He said interested students can submit their applications directly to the company.
Rosond’s public relations intern, Nhlanhla Mahalngu, said the internship is providing help in improving students’ skills and developing them by getting the interns ready for the working environment.
“They can go to the company’s website www.rosond.co.za and click on contact us to submit applications. They must state what kind of employment they are looking for,” said Ms Mahlangu.
Logistics intern, Ms Sphokuhle Sibeko, said he felt honoured to be chosen for the programme.
“We are the first interns in the company. We all have the opportunity to prove that we can be assets in the company,” said Ms Sphokuhle Sibeko.
Mr Matome Makgopo said the employees at Rosond are very helpful.
“I hope to gain more knowledge on things like fitting cementation pumps and Kempe drill machines, said Mr Makgopo.
The next intake of the internship programme will be in 2017.
