Hard work gets rewarded

"We reward learners who achieve 70 percent and higher in their respective subjects."

Boitumelong Secondary School rewarded its best performing learners for 2016.
The school’s principal, Mrs Sesi Makena, said on October 17 learners gathered at the assembly area to witness their peers being recognised for their hard work.
“The reason for the academic awards is to motivate and encourage learners to achieve and perform better,” Mrs Makena said.
“We reward learners who achieve 70 percent and higher in their respective subjects. The top learners’ improved aggregate score was between 80 percent and 84 percent,” said Mrs Makena.
She said Precious Makunyane was the top learner in Grade 8 last year and she is the top learner in grade 9.
“So is Tebatso Modise in grade 10, Tiphany Nkomo in grade 11 and Happy Tshishonga in grade 12. We are hoping that Happy will obtain seven distinctions if all goes well in her matric exams,” Mrs Makena said.
“Each learner will receive a certificate listing all subjects in which they obtained good marks. If our learners are doing well we need to nurture the talent they have.”
“I am very happy. I take the awards as an inspiration and a motivation for other learners to work harder. I am looking forward to excelling towards my career and achieving more goals,” said grade 10 top achiever Tebatso Modise.
The principal said Boitumelong Secondary School urges learners to acknowledge that education has purpose in life and it adds value to their future.
She said all grade 8 learners performed well, so it was difficult to choose a top performing learner.
