Cops spread awareness against woman and child abuse

The community was educated about how to stop the abuse of children and women

KEMPTON Park’s SAPS’ social crime prevention and communications units joined in the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign on Wednesday.

Joined by South African Airways, the Right 2 Know campaign and EMPD, the group set off to Willow Park in Bredell where they spoke to community members.

“We visited the farm community in Willow Park, which we identified as one of the ‘vulnerable’ areas of Kempton, and spread awareness against the abuse of women and children. We made them aware of their rights and educated them about how to prevent the abuse of children and women,” Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for the police, said.

The community was also given gifts such stationery, clothes and toys for the children, while the women received sanitary pads and groceries.

Among the recipients was a 102-year-old granny who is bedridden at her house .
