Home Affairs extends operating hours ahead of November 4 elections

Home Affairs has urged eligible voters to ensure they have an accepted identity document to vote, while expanding access to Smart ID services through departmental offices and participating banks.

The Department of Home Affairs will extend operating hours at its front offices to help eligible voters obtain the identity documents needed for the November 4 Local Government Elections.

The extended hours will allow citizens to collect completed identity documents, apply for IDs and obtain Temporary Identity Certificates (TICs), where applicable, the department said.

From November 2 to 4, Home Affairs offices will operate from 08:00 to 18:00.

On Election Day, November 4, offices will remain open from 07:00 to 21:00, in line with the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s operating hours.

The department has urged South Africans who have applied for identity documents to collect them in time to vote.

It has also called on stakeholder forums, community organisations and community leaders to encourage eligible voters to collect their IDs or obtain the necessary temporary documentation before Election Day.
