Pick n Pay of Swazi Inn has partnered with the Voice of Tembisa for the collection of food parcels to be donated to needy families.
According to Pick n Pay public relations officer Mr Tom Makhura, they aim to distribute the items among 50 families.
“It is the festive season and families that are most in need are struggling to make ends meet. They are worried about where their meals will come from. This is the perfect time to extend the great spirit of giving beyond our homes and give together as a community, to make a difference. In our store we are running a draw whereby customers buy four tins of food for the needy families and stand a chance to win prizes such as a microwave and hampers, among others. We aim to eradicate poverty and plough back to the very same community that supports us. The initiative is part of our corporate social initiative (CSI) that is aimed at uplifting the township,” said Mr Makhura.
Mr Makhura added they’ve adopted a senior Ma Africa Football Club which will be playing in the Philly’s Games.
“We managed to register for them to play in the games and we hope to groom and develop the team to excel in sport. Since we are based in Ivory Park, it has been our dream to find a team that we can sponsor and that will make us proud,” added Mr Makhura.
Mr Makhura is appealing to members of the community to support the food parcels initiative so that needy families can eat this festive season.
“Let us all make these holidays brighter for those families in need. The food items that we raise in Pick n Pay will be combined with the others raised at Voice of Tembisa,” he said. For more information on this initiative call Mr Makhura on 081 018 1043.
