‘Intoxicated’ driver flees from scene of fatal accident
Three people died on the scene
Three people were killed this morning shortly before 6am when the bakkie they were travelling on overturned several timeson the N12 west at the Rondebult Road exit in Boksburg.
Max Cohen of emer-G-Med said the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle. Two passengers were assessed and were found to have sustained fatal injuries.
A third passenger was in a very critical condition, Cohen said. The patient deteriorated and paramedics started CPR as part of a full Advanced Life Support resuscitation. Unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
A fourth passenger sustained critical injuries and required rapid Advanced Life Support intervention. Two more patients sustained moderate injuries.
The patients were assessed and stabilised at the scene before being transported to various nearby hospitals for further care.
It was reported by the passengers that the driver was intoxicated – he fled the accident scene. Local traffic authorities are investigating.
