Beauty with brains. These are the words that describe the former Miss Teen Tembisa, Ms Mohau Matinketsa, who passed matric with flying colours by obtaining six distinctions.
This 18-year-old learner, from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, achieved distinctions in mathematical literacy with 89 percent, Afrikaans with 81 percent, dramatic arts with 80 percent, English with 82 percent, history with 84 percent and life orientation with 87 percent.
Ms Matinketsa only missed obtaining two additional distinctions, in life science by one mark and mathematics by seven marks.
While she initially had her sights set on studying a Bachelor of Arts, the local beauty has changed her mind and will now study Strategic Communication in Marketing Communication, at the University of Johannesburg.
Tlamatlama based, Ms Matikentsa said she was extremely excited to have obtained these results as she worked very hard.
“I am very proud of myself. I knew I was capable of achieving the distinctions because of hard work. I’ve learnt from a young age that hard work does pay,” she said.
When asked what the best medicine is to pass matric, Ms Matinketsa said it is to make sure that you understand your school work from day one and to be disciplined and not lazy.
She encourages young girls to seek out opportunities that will improve their lives.
