‘Pageant sisters’ help less fortunate girls get sanitary pads
The initiative was a part of their duties as finalists of the Miss and Mr Junior SA Pageant
LOCAL pageant teen girls, Cayla and Charnè van Eeden, came together to raise funds to collect sanitary pads for less fortunate girls.
Charnè (16) and Cayla (13) hosted the fundraising evening late last year at Spur Norkem Mall.
Their friends helped them out by being waiters for the night.
People were asked to donate R180, which can provide a schoolgirl with enough sanitary pads to last her a whole year.
The initiative was a part of their duties as finalists of the Miss and Mr Junior SA Pageant, which has partnered with the Mimi Foundation, which will become the charity of choice in the annual beauty pageant.
Charnè is a finalist for Miss Junior Teen South Africa 2017, while Cayla is a finalist for Miss Petite Teen South Africa 2017.
The girls, who are close friends and refer to themselves as ‘pageant sisters’, attend the same modelling school, Model Manifest, in Edleen.
As part of the competition, each Miss and Mr Junior SA regional finalist will raise funds as well as public and media awareness of the Mimi campaign, to provide affordable sanitary pads to more than two million South African schoolgirls.
“Each month these girls from disadvantaged communities may have to skip several days of school for the lack of something most girls take for granted, sanitary pads,” Cayla and Charnè said.
Cayla and Charnè will be hosting several fundraisers over the next few months to help keep girls in school.
“We urge all companies and small businesses in the Kempton Park area to support this great campaign,” the girls challenged.
