‘The ANC has delivered in Tembisa’ – Ramaphosa
Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa visited Tembisa prior to the ANC's 105th anniversary celebrations at Orlando Stadium.
Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa visited Tembisa prior to the ANC’s 105th anniversary at Orlando Stadium, on January 8.
In his address to the community on December 6, Ramaphosa touched on a number of the ANC’s achievements with regards to service delivery, which are aimed at improving the lives of South African citizens.
He said the Institute of Race Relations has commended the party for the strides it has made in changing South Africa for the better over the past 22 years.
“We need to deliver to make people’s lives better. Today, 85 per cent of houses have electricity and about 4.3 million RDP houses have been built and handed over. No country in the world has done that,” said Ramaphosa.
The deputy president asked people to applaud the ANC for such achievements, including the improvements to water and sanitation in needy areas.
He said infrastructure development is a priority in providing people with essential services and to attracting investment to grow township economies by bringing that investment to where people live.
According to Ramaphosa, a million jobs will be created by June 2017 to provide young people with the skills they need to start their own businesses.
Businesses have also been urged by government to open doors for the employment of young people, and Ramaphosa said he agrees with this initiative.
The ANC’s zone secretary, Mr Aubrey Langa, said the reason for the deputy president’s visit was to deliver a message of hope to the community of Winnie Mandela Section and the rest of Tembisa.
“This mini rally is meant to mobilise the community to support the January 8 celebration as the ANC turns 105 years old.
“One key objective is for the ANC to reconnect with the community and build the community’s confidence in the party,” said Langa.
“It is very important for the ANC to be among the people to understand and resolve community problems.”
Mr Langa highlighted the development of new structures in the area, such as the new Customer Care Centre, three new secondary schools and new mall developments, to emphasise the achievements of the party in terms of service delivery.
“The community must support government programmes and own and protect these infrastructures, and people should continue to support the ANC beyond the 105th anniversary,” he concluded.
