Khethiwe shines with her matric results

Khethiwe said she was never afraid to ask questions when she did not know or understand something.

Khethiwe Cynthia Ndaba (18) was one of the top matric achievers at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School with three distinctions.

She obtained distinctions in Afrikaans, life orientation and life sciences.

When asked what enabled her to excel in the matric exams, Khethiwe said she was never afraid to ask questions when she did not know or understand something.

“I also worked hard through group studies in all of the subjects and I attended classes from day one of school,” said Ndaba.

Ndaba said she expected distinctions as she was aiming for five distinctions.

“I am proud of myself because in other subjects I passed well. I am happy because I got what I wanted – to qualify for university,” said Ndaba.

Ndaba has registered to study biological sciences at the University of Witwatersrand.

“Life sciences is my strongest subject. I love it because it opens up my thinking capacity and I get answers to the things I did not know,” said Ndaba.

Ndaba, who was a head girl of Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School in 2016, participated in debates, public speaking, Eisteddfod and was in the top 10 in the overall academic results.

When asked how she would encourage those who did not make it, Ndaba said they need to consider rewriting the subjects they failed or go back to school again and work harder.

“I would advise them to have home timetables visible everywhere in their bedrooms as a reminder to stay disciplined and to strive for their goals. Nothing comes easy in life,” said Ndaba.

“I was challenged by how tired I would get because of my workload. However, I managed to tackle that through prioritising and I also helped other matriculants. I will continue to help matriculants this year.”
