Four distinctions for Mahlulo
"Throughout the year I learnt that time management is imperative because if you are not organised, you cannot manage to revise all the subjects in a short period of time."
Sipho Mahlulo (19) was the top achiever for 2016 at Masiqhakaze Secondary School with four distinctions in IsiXhosa, life orientation, accounting and business studies.
Emfihlweni based, Mahlulo said 2016 has been the toughest year as he had sleepless nights working hard.
“From day one, I paid lot of attention to my education. I had study groups, extra classes (morning and evening classes), and when the exams were closer, I studied throughout the night.
“Throughout the year I learnt that time management is imperative because if you are not organised, you cannot manage to revise all the subjects in a short period of time,” said Mahlulo.
Mahlulo said he was extremely grateful that his teachers arranged extra classes for them. He also thanked everyone who helped him to pass.
“My school gave us a lot of support from the beginning. 2016 was a great year for me,” said Mahlulo.
When asked what he will be studying in 2017, Mahlulo said he has registered for a Bachelor’s in Education, majoring in accounting and business studies. He will be studying at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in the Eastern Cape.
Mahlulo has not obtained a bursary yet, but he hopes to receive a positive answer soon.
When asked why he wants to become a teacher, Mahlulo said there is a shortage of teachers in the country, especially in his home province of the Eastern Cape.
