WATCH: Glen Marais resident’s Kulula video goes viral

On YouTube, the video has been viewed over 61 000 times

A Glen Marais resident became an instant global sensation after a video he made – three years ago – went viral on the internet.

The video shows Adrian Thomas, a former air steward for Kulula Airlines, give his own hilarious version of a safety demonstration just before a flight headed for Cape Town.

In the video, Thomas can be heard speaking in various accents, including Indian, British and Coloured. Think: “Awe ma se kind!”

The 35-year-old Jack-of-all-trades – you can add hip hop dancer and soccer player to his impressive resume – decided to take advantage of his workplace’s easy-going environment by giving a little comedy flavour to the safety instructions.

And just like he had hoped, the video was indeed a hit with the passengers – who can be heard giggling throughout the video.

Although the clip was made and posted three years ago when Thomas was still with Kulula, the video only went viral this year.

“A guy by the name of Abu Kad saw and shared the video on his Facebook page on January 8 and it just went viral from there onwards,” Thomas shared with EXPRESS.

The video is now at almost 21 000 shares from Kad’s Facebook post. On YouTube, the video has been viewed over 61 000 times.

Thomas says he now keeps in contact with Kad and has thanked him  for sharing the video, which has now made him a worldwide sensation.

Not only has the car salesman been featured in national and local media across the country; his humour and talent also grabbed the attention of international media.

“I also did a telephonic interview with UK publication, the Daily Mail,” Thomas said.

“I’ve been trying to get into the media industry for years with no luck. I would like to work in advertising, TV or radio.”

Or comedy maybe? Judging from the video, he could give Trevor Noah a run for his money with that skilled grasp of accents.

“I’m not really interested in comedy actually,” he said, disagreeing with me – much to my disappointment of course.

So, hopefully the video will do just the trick for the aspiring entertainer.

The former Pietermaritzburg resident moved to Kempton in 2006, after living in England for about three years.

He lives with his fiancé and this will be the second year of their engagement.

Thomas also plays soccer and is a striker for Bonaero 74 Amateur Football Club.
