#MakingIt – Local artist aims high
This talented artist who has recently designed shoes, animal and house pieces and cultural pots, among other things, fetches clay soil from his home village in the Bochum area and brings it to Ivory Park Extension 7, where he stays.
Local artist and church pastor Darius Tsita’s dream is to own his own artwork design company.
This talented artist, who designs shoes and cultural pots, among other things, uses a specific clay soil for his creations which he fetches from his home village in the Bochum area and brings back to Ivory Park Extension 7, where he stays.
“I was taught handy work at school and I grew up designing items using clay soil. I do not find it hard to design the items I want to,” said Mr Tsita.
He uses the clay soil, water, a knife and paints in order to build his designs.
Mr Tsita said he lives and breathes his designs, as he spends most of his time designing and making his artistic pieces.
“The love that I have for my artwork always makes me think out of the box – I want to design a new product every week. Although back when I first started, I did not have light or much information on how to sell my artwork. My aim is to make design good African designs which people will find useful,” he said.
Mr Tsita is also a pastor at a church in Ivory Park Extension 8.
“I am appealing to members of the community to support my artwork and buy the pieces. It is through the community that artists grow and talent is exposed. I have considered entering my work in art competitions where I hope my designs will be seen,” Mr Tsita explains.
