Flash flood warning: it can hit you up to six hours later
Always memorise emergency numbers
AFTER this afternoon’s heavy down poors in the Joburg area motorists are advised to be cautious about flash floods.
Netcare 911 sent out these tips:
Flash floods occur within six hours of heavy rains and this can find people unprepared. You will not always have a warning that these deadly, sudden floods are coming.
So, if you do live in areas prone to flash floods, make sure you are safe.
Below are a few tips to protect you and your family
1. Always memorise emergency numbers.
2. Avoid low lying areas, climb to higher ground if you find yourself in the middle of a flash flood.
3. Avoid walking or driving through flash floods.
4. Abandon your vehicle immediately if you find yourself in the middle of a flash flood, open the window and escape!
