Ivory Park CPF plans to eradicate crime
Deputy chairman Mr Joshua Mothupi said they aim to mobilise the community and encourage them join community patrollers in their sectors.
Ivory Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) held its first meeting for 2017 on Tuesday last week, brainstorming ideas on how they will help the police to fight the scourge of crime in the area.
They’ve also nominated their new executive committee members for this year.
Deputy chairman, Mr Joshua Mothupi, said they aim to mobilise the community and encourage them to join community patrollers in their sectors.
“Crime is very high and we need everyone to work with the police to bring the criminals to book. Ivory Park is mostly terrorised by house breakers, car hijackers and business robbers. With the help of patrollers, the police are able to arrest the perpetrators,” said Mr Mothupi.
He said this year they’ve started on a good note as they’ve recovered illegal firearms and dagga.
“We thank our sector managers, who are encouraging us everyday to fight crime, for their support. We will be working hand in hand with MeMeZa Community Safety to assist crime victims,” added Mr Mothupi.
Mr Mothupi explained that the community’s involvement in the fight against crime is imperative and it would alert the police of what concerned them.
“We will also visit schools and interact with learners and we will help monitor bully learners and those who bring dangerous weapons to schools,” he said.
He also emphasised that Ivory Park has young people who are taking drugs.
“I believe that if these young people can get help in rehabilitation centres, crime will reduce. There is a major challenge in the area and we’ve got no rehabilitation centre that will accommodate the addicted people,” added Mr Mothupi.
The newly appointed CPF executive committee includes chairperson Mr Franz Mothupi; secretary, Busisiwe Sentsomedi, deputy secretary, Mr Freddy Seleka; treasure, Mr Solomon Mojela, public relation’s officer, Ms Annah Mokhari; school safety, Ms Margret Molepo; criminal justice, Mr Seabelo Manteku; youth desk, Mr Jan Sekgobela; environmental design, Ms Maria Moima, victim empowerment, Ms Shirley Mahlati and administrator Mr Thabiso Mabotja.
