Hard work gets rewarded

Tembisa schools shine in the Executive Mayor's Honorarium Award.

Ekurhuleni’s mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, honoured the best performing learners at a ceremony held at the OR Tambo Conference Centre.

The executive mayor’s Honorarium Award was a bursary awarding ceremony hosted in Boksburg at the Birchwood Hotel.

Recipients of the bursaries received full bursaries that include tuition, accommodation and textbook fees.

“Clr Masina has increased the bursary fund from R10-million to R100-million in order to increase opportunities for further education and training for young people across Ekurhuleni,” said the mayoral spokesperson, Gugu Ndima.

“We want to pay tribute to all of you, for your hard work and the discipline that has helped you to achieve the good results we are celebrating here today as a city,” said Clr Masina.

He said the sense of dedication and hard work from the learners gives the city a positive impression that the future of the region and that of the country will be in safe hands after they complete their academic studies.

Categories included Best Performing Learners, Most Improved Schools, Most Improved District and Best Performing School.

Five Tembisa schools shone in the category of Best Performing Schools from priority areas.

These schools were Masisebenze Comprehensive School, Jiyane Secondary School, Phomolong Secondary School, Bokamoso Secondary School and Tembisa West Secondary School.

Masiqhakaze High School took ninth position in the category of Most Improved Schools.
