Van Riebeeck CPF warns of false letter circulating
New residents can contact the organisation's chairperson for a home visit and introduction to the VRP CPF
RESIDENTS have been warned against a letter that has been doing the rounds, asking them for personal details.
This caution was issued by Van Riebeeck Park Community Policing, which says that although the letter mentions the CPF, it does not come from them.
“It has been brought to our attention that a letter has been circulating asking people to provide their details, so that they can be added to their WhatsApp street group. The CPF name is mentioned. Please be aware that this letter does not come from the Van Riebeeck Park Community Policing and the origin of this letter is being investigated,” the group said in a statement.
“This letter does not have our logo on it and the only form you have been required to complete when joining is a membership form sent directly from us so that you can be added to one of our crime groups.”
The group explained that their patrollers have signs on their vehicles so that they can be identified.
“Anyone patrolling without them is not affiliated to us. Please do not give out your personal information to strangers and fall victim to scams.”
Community Policing Van Riebeeck Park’s SMS number for new members is 072 613 5204. You are required to provide your email address so that a membership form can be mailed to you.
If you have any queries in this regard, contact Chairperson for Van Riebeeck Park Community Policing, Renee Erasmus, on 082 758 7399.
New residents can contact Erasmus for a home visit and introduction to the VRP CPF.
