Ward 07 FC proved to be the champions of football on the dusty pitch.
Ward 07 FC coach Keith “Sweat” Mashala said the Top 8 tournament was a difficult one, and in the first game Ward 07 FC was tipped against a tough team.
“My game plan was simple. I just wanted my players to maintain game position and wait for the right moment to break the opponent’s defence,” said Sweat.
Ward 07 FC drew their first game 2 -2 and the referee took the game to the penalty shoot-outs, where Ward 07 FC won 5 – 4.
In their second game on Sunday, Sweat said Ward 07’s opponents did not have a game plan.
“It was an advantage that we implemented our plan to play the game we wanted from the middle field to attacking,” he said.
In that clash Ward 07 FC drew 1-1 and the game proceeded to a penalty shoot-out, where Ward 07 FC won 5 – 4.
“In the final game we lost a lot of scoring chances and we ended up drawing 1 – 1 again.
We could have won 6 – 1 but we suffered because of the lost chances,” said Sweat.
Ward 07 FC won the final match on penalties and the score was again 5 – 4 in favor of Ward 07 FC.
He said as a team they have learnt from their mistakes.
“We are the top penalty-takers.”
He said he would give Tsoku the Man of the Match title, as he saved a lot of goals in all the penalty shoot-outs.
