Sello Sa Tlou shines on

The performing arts group was recently invited to showcase their talent in Sepedi traditional dance at the African National Congress (ANC)'s 105th anniversary celebration held at Orlando Stadium.

The Winnie Mandela Zone 3 based Sello Sa Tlou Theatre group continues to aspire to inspire other young people in the community when they go the extra mile to make it in the performing arts industry.

The performing arts group was recently invited to showcase their talent in Sepedi traditional dance at the African National Congress (ANC)’s 105th anniversary celebration held at the Orlando Stadium.

The founder of the Sello Sa Tlou Theatre group, Mr Sello MacDonald Malebana, said that art enables them to reach high places and meet high-profile people.

“We work with a lot of people in getting the group to reach big heights. We are pleased to be acknowledged in big events in the country; it gives us more courage and support as a developing art group. We perform at weddings, parties, anniversaries, among other events,” added Mr Malebana.

The Sello Sa Tlou Theatre group is a multi-talented performing art group that showcases talent in various forms of cultural music and dance, drama, poetry, and modern dance.

Since its inception in 2012, Sello Sa Tlou has grown tremendously and has established a junior group.

Together, the senior and junior groups consist of 43 members.

Mr Malebana said they are planning to host numerous projects to reach local schools and pre-schools and day care centres.

“Through our Arebapaleng and schoolchildren art project, we are hoping to educate young people about art and make them realise the importance of art in the community. We will also help learners choose and follow a significant career. During our visits at schools, we will be performing educational shows that inform youngsters about bullying in schools, alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancy awareness and a healthy lifestyle,” said Mr Malebana.

Mr Malebana said, after visiting pre-schools and day care centres, they are aiming to host a huge arts festival event for children in Tembisa.

“We are still calling on young people between 10 and 28 years of age in and around Tembisa to join us in order to hone their skills in the arts industry,” he added.

When asked where he wants to see the group in the future, Mr Malebana said they want to have their own arts academy where they can train young people.

“Having our own facility will open many channels for the community of Tembisa. It will help remove children from the street,” added Mr Malebana.

The Sello Sa Tlou Theatre group will be celebrating its fifth anniversary at Winnie Mandela on May 20 this year.
