Bertharry School recently held an academic excellence awards ceremony to honour their primary school learners who did exceptionally well in 2016.

Representative of the school Mrs Zandile Zana said the awards were held in February because the final year marks came out just a few days before the school closed in December.

“The top three learners per grade are celebrated to acknowledge their hard work and to motivate the other learners to excel in this academic year,” said Mrs Zwana.

The deputy principal of the primary school, Mr Harris Mtamathumba, said that the school does not celebrate mediocrity.

“Most of these learners who got the awards in the form of medals had scored distinctions and a few were in the 70 per cent range.”

“Those who were in the first position also received a trophy in honour of their hard work,” said Mr Mtamathumba.

The principal, Mr Harry Kumwenda, thanked the parents for supporting the learners and advised the other learners that they too can win the top achiever’s trophy if they work extra hard this year.

The Student of the Year Top Achiever trophy went to Dlangalala Nokukhanya, who was advised to continue with her spirit of excellence in 2017, in Grade Seven.

The audience was entertained by the singing duo of The Soprano’s – Mpho Moraka and Motsidisi Monini, who are in Grade 11- and also the Grade Three choir.
