New group in Norkem to assist those in need
'We invite the public and private sector, companies and individuals to support us'

A new organisation in Norkem Park hopes to make a difference in the lives of families who are struggling to cope financially.
Known as People In Trouble Time (PITT) Boxes, the non-profit organisation has been growing fast since its establishment in November last year.
At the helm is Norma-Jean (Shore) Veldsman, the director and founder.
“We have assisted quite a few families in the area and are growing quite rapidly. We hope to help more families in the future. Our aim is not only to feed but also teach our beneficiaries to help uplift themselves from poverty and become self-sufficient.
PITT Boxes is trying to assist families in dire situations and single-parent families, to source internships for youngsters struggling to find work and to source work for adults to alleviate poverty in the community.”
One success story is that of Nathan (19).
“As a group we found an internship for him at a major hotel chain. He is doing very well and is almost on his feet and will not need us soon. We not only supported him financially but also ensured he completed his matric last year,” Veldsman said.
They are are currently assisting people living in camps and recently went to Heidelberg to raise the spirits of the people living in these camps. “We also donated what food we had collected.”
Several fund-raisers have also been hosted.
“We invite the public and private sector, companies and individuals to support us. We are in need of pre-loved clothing, linen, blankets, baby clothing and any other necessity that may make life easier. And most importantly, we need companies to help with our employment placement programme, to break the cycle of poverty in our community,” Veldsman added.
Financial contributions are also welcome.
