Rooftop market at Kempton Square
The organisers are hoping the market will give Kempton's economy a boost and also bring social cohesion in the community
BUSINESSMAN and Kempton resident, Olebogeng Mothibi, is starting a rooftop market which he believes will rejuvenate and boost Kempton’s economy.
Mothibi, director of Mothibi Industries, is organising the Ekurhuleni Inner-City Market which is set to become a monthly occasion. The launch will be on March 25.
“The Ekurhuleni Inner-City Market is positioning itself as the premium neighbourhood market in Ekurhuleni where visitors can enjoy delicious food while browsing through aisles of stalls with vendors selling a variety of goods including clothing, fashion accessories, arts and crafts, books and wellness/health products,” Mothibi explained.
The market is a great outing for the whole family with an adventure playground for children, live music and games for adults.
Over and above entertainment purposes, Mothibi has a greater vision for the market, saying it has socio-economic benefits for Kempton, including developing the city’s economy.
“It can also help with inner-city rejuvenation and acts as a great platform for business start-ups. Socially, the market can promote social cohesion between the city’s stakeholders; renew the spirit of camaraderie within the community as well as creating equality.”
The market day will take place on the first Saturday of each month from 9am till 6pm. It will be hosted at Kempton Square and the vending space fee is R500 plus R100 for electricity.
Entrance is free and parking is R5.
