Aston Manor plans big farewell for principal

Food stalls will be available but the school suggests bringing a picnic basket/cooler box and blanket.

AFTER 42 years in education, the principal of Aston Manor Primary School is bidding this career farewell.

To honour his 35 years at Aston, the school has decided to say good-bye in carnival style on May 27 from 11am to 3pm.

The carnival and picnic will be hosted at the school on Eland Road in Nimrod Park and anyone who has known him over the years is welcome to attend.

Leslie Steenkamp is a high school trained teacher who started at Kempton Park Primary School in 1975. He became head of department for educational guidance at Aston Manor Primary School in 1982 and deputy headmaster in 1984.

He was acting headmaster on several occasions – 1987, 1988, 1991 – and was appointed as the headmaster in 1992.

Steenkamp has been in education for 42 years and so Aston Manor Primary School has decided to host a farewell. This is an open invitation to everyone associated with Aston Manor or Steenkamp – ex-pupils, ex-parents, staff, current parents and children of Aston Manor, as well as people who know him and would like to say farewell.

Food stalls will be available but the school suggests bringing a picnic basket/cooler box and blanket. Camp chairs are also welcome. The tuck shop will be open for sweets and cold drinks. Entrance is R10 a person.
