Cyclists to hit the road for five days for Braille Bibles
The community can contribute to the initiative by making either a donation or sponsor a Bible

ON September 3, 11 cyclists will ride over 800km over five days, from Kempton to Durban, in aid of the country’s blind.
Accompanied by three support vehicles, they will help to raise funds to sponsor Braille Bibles for South Africa’s blind.
“There is a huge demand for Braille Bibles but, unfortunately, most blind people cannot afford the Bible as it is very expensive,” explains the Bible Society of South Africa.
All the cyclists are businessmen and church ministers who are passionate about spreading the Word of God and making a difference in communities.
The initiative was started by Past George Thompson from the Bible Society of South Africa.
Thompson, who has been in ministry since 1981, is very passionate about the need for Braille Bibles.
“This year the goal is to provide 33 Braille Bibles to the blind. The cost of one Braille Bible is R3 200. The aim is to raise R105 300. We’ve already raised R47 000 so we are nearly halfway there.”
The community can contribute to the initiative by donating or sponsoring a Bible. Although the production cost of a Braille Bible is R3 200, they are distributed free of charge to the blind.
“We ask people to sponsor one Bible or a portion thereof. An alternative would be to give a rand for every kilometre that is cycled by the team.
Last year, 22 Braille Bibles were distributed.
“Your contribution will assist us to address this huge need in our society as a non-profitable organisation.”
The cyclists will depart from Kempton Park Bible House and will arrive at Durban Bible House on September 8. They will stay overnight at various destinations during the journey.
