Truck explosions on Zuurfontein Road trigger pepper spray alarm
Tiki Coetzee said the two explosions must have triggered a store's alarm because everyone was pepper sprayed when the owner opened the door.

FOUR people were left pepper-sprayed when the trailers of a super-link truck caught fire after two massive explosions on Zuurfontein Road on Thursday morning at about 7am.
Tiki Coetzee of Terenure, one of the victims, thinks the ‘pepper-spray alarm system’ at a nearby store was triggered by the explosions.
“As the owner of the store opened the door, the two of us and two other employees were pepper-sprayed. The owner and I were actually laughing it off although his son did not think it was funny,” said Coetzee.

Tiki’s mother, Daleen, said she had asked her son to go and play the Lotto for her but later learned her son was delayed because he was one of the four people who was sprayed after the big explosions.
“The explosions were so massive I felt my windows shaking. I am still waiting for my son to return as he is waiting for his eyes to get better,” she informed EXPRESS about an hour after te incident.

When EXPRESS got hold of Tiki, he said, “The super-link truck’s brake boosters exploded and caused the trailers to catch fire. I could see the tyres burn after the first explosion. I saw nearby police officers flee from the scene.
“I am not going to lie, that truck driver is one lucky man to have escaped unharmed. He quickly unlinked the truck’s horse and drove away to leave the burning trailers behind.”
Coetzee said the cargo was some white powder which burned rapidly.
