Cleaners find body of new-born baby girl dumped next to bin

The body was wrapped in newspapers

MUNICIPAL workers made a grisly discovery on Friday morning when they found the body of a new-born baby.

The baby girl, whose placenta was still attached to her body, was found dumped next to a dustbin on Margaret Avenue in the Kempton CBD.

According to Kempton Police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the municipal workers made the discovery just before 11am.

“The body was wrapped in newspapers,” Mtshali explained.

Police are investigating a case of concealment of birth and appeal to the community not to dump new-born babies and leave them out to die.

“Rather give it up for adoption. There are facilities such as hospitals and children’s centres that can take in unwanted babies and care for them,” Mtshali concluded.
