EMPD recovers hijacked truck, liquor worth R172 000

Officers found an abandoned truck and various types of liquor valued at R172 000, according to an invoice found with the stock.

A hijacked truck and liquor stock worth R172,000 were recovered in Kaalfontein, Midrand, on August 20.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Thabiso Makgato, the EMPD Northern Region Task Team received information from tracking company Rent-Track about a hijacked vehicle, along with its coordinates.

Members proceeded to the coordinates, which led them to a residence on Torpedo Street, Kaalfontein.

At the property, officers found an abandoned white Hino truck and various types of liquor valued at R172,000, according to an invoice found with the stock.

Makgato said some of the liquor had already been offloaded from the truck and taken onto the property.

The SAPS LCRC Unit from Sandton was informed and attended the scene.

Following processing of the recovered stock, Warrant Officer R.G. Mashakeni handed it over to the rightful owner’s representative at the scene.

The Hino truck was impounded at the Van Ryn Deep Pound for further investigation.
