Residents urged to sign petition after weekend’s loud noise

There will also be a petition regarding the ongoing smell emanating from Swartspruit

AS a result of the high number of complaints received from residents about the unbearable noise from a function at Dries Niemandt Park on Saturday, the DA will be putting up a petition table at Edleen Spar this weekend.

Ward councillor Tracey Lourenco said the table would be there from 10am. There will also be a petition regarding the ongoing smell emanating from Swartspruit.

“On the back of the interdict that was obtained over the New Year’s fireworks display, we are going to look at options available to residents to ensure that their rights are protected regarding future events of this nature,” she added.

Lourenco said the extremely loud music that was playing on Saturday could be heard as far as Esther Park, Edleen, Rhodesfield, the CBD, Cresslawn, Modderfontein and Van Riebeeck Park.

“Residents are furious and I am inundated with complaints,” she told EXPRESS on Saturday evening.
