PUBLIC Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has apparently laid charges against the DA’s MP and Deputy Chief Whip in the National Assembly and Lethabong Constituency Head, Mike Waters.
The charges are understood to be related to the contravention of the Public Protector Act.
Speaking to EXPRESS, DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach confirmed that Waters informed them that charges had been laid against him, but he had not yet been officially contacted.
Water said he was not allowed to talk to the media about the matter.
“At this point, things are still at a premature stage. We understand there are charges that have been laid. If and when investigations continue, we will decide on what action to take if necessary,” Breytenbach said.
This comes after Waters published a provisional report into allegations that State Security Minister David Mahlobo misled Parliament when he said student leader and ‘Fees Must Fall’ activist Mcebo Dlamini had never been to his house.
However, Waters said the report was sent unintentionally.
Waters had reported Mahlobo to the Public Protector late last year for violating the Executive Members Ethics Act after misleading Parliament.
Express tried to get comment from the Public Protector’s office but had been unsuccessful thus far.
