One swimming pool now open

The pool in Birchleigh will only open on October 17

KEMPTON Park swimming pool on Highveld Road is now open after an initial delay.

However, the second pool in Birchleigh will only open on October 17.

The opening of pools in the metro, which was supposed to be September 1, was delayed because the metro did not have chemicals to clean the pools.

Gates to some of the city’s swimming pools were officially opened on Friday.

In preparation for the swimming season, some of the pools went through an extensive renovation process.

This included concrete painting; repairs to tiles and expansion joints and plumbing and electrical faults were repaired.

The times for both pools are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 6pm and Sundays and public holidays from 2pm to 6pm.

All pools are closed on Mondays.

The entrance fee for to Kempton swimming pool is R10 a person and for the Birchleigh pool R5 a person.

Ekurhuleni has three types of pool categories with different facilities.

Category A boasts indoor heated swimming pools and is an arena for competitive swimming competitions, while category B pools are mainly outdoor pools with grand stands and category C pools are standard with basic amenities.

Kempton is a category B pool and the Birchleigh pool falls under category C.
