Man trying to help at accident scene hit by truck, left critical

Seven people were injured when two vehicles collided on the R21 near Atlas Road at 2.30am on Saturday morning.

Werner Vermaak of ER24 said paramedics from ER24 and other services attended the scene.

A man, believed to be in his thirties, was found in a critical condition near the scene. It is believed from bystanders he arrived on the scene shortly after the two vehicles had collided.

“One of the bystanders explained he attempted to offer assistance at the scene when he was knocked down by a passing truck. Paramedics stabilised him and rushed him to Tembisa Hospital, Vermaak said.

Six people from the two vehicles were treated for injuries ranging from minor to moderate. They were later transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
