Learners injured in stampede all discharged from hospital
The Gauteng department of education confirmed that the 19 learners were all discharged on the same day.
Nineteen children were taken to the Tembisa Hospital after an alleged stampede at Ivory Park Primary School on October 13.

According to the department’s spokesperson Steve Mabona the learners sustained minor injuries while participating in a Science Mobile Education Presentation organised by the City of Johannesburg.
“The City of Joburg was holding a roadshow and as they were demonstrating a specific item, the children at the back pushed forward to see what was happening. This consequently caused a knock as learners lost footing and crushed other children in front,” said Mabona.
ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived at the scene to find provincial services already in attendance.
Paramedics were lead into the school to where they found the young children.
Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported.
The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to hospitals in the area for further treatment.
The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were at the scene for further investigations.
“We wish all affected learners a speedy recovery and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” added Mabona.
