Farm summit aims to address food security

FOOD security for Africa.
This is the vision of the All African Farmers Empowerment Operations Summit to be hosted in Kempton Park.
The first summit will take place from October 23-25, focusing on sustainable aquaculture, including general breeding and advanced management towards achieving African continent fish food security.
From October 26-28 the focus will fall on sustainable general poultry breeding and operations for African food security.
Both events will take place at Kempton Park Civic Centre on the second floor.
Dr Olusanjo Peters, Stout Odeku, the man behind the summit, has a vision of achieving food security on the African continent by equipping emerging farmers with the knowledge they need.
“Through this summit we not only aim to improve food security but also alleviate farmers’ poverty through production systems. We will bring African farmers’ voice to the international economies via easy farming grants accessible to all,” he said.
“Through our organisation we assist farmers to get agricultural land in their countries, as well as grants from the World Bank and African Development Bank. On farmers’ behalf, we also do visibility studies in their country,” Peters added.
He hopes to establish food security in all countries in Africa within the next 10 years.
The summit will include high-level discussions on farmers’ credit administration, sustainability of existing farm technology, worker ethics, conservation agriculture, securing funding, farm workers and much more.
“The summit will direct farmers to commence from simple seeds to global bounty with our value-added agriculture, ingenuity and conscience,” said Peters.
Peters started farming in 2003 in Nigeria.
“My passion for farming started from a very young age. I remember when I was eight years old and the United Nations (UN) said they would be bringing food and water to Nigeria, I asked my father why we could not produce our own food. He answered and said that I would be one among millions to do this,” Peter shared.
“Since then it has been my mission and now my vision to empower farmers and to stop African poverty.”
