Girl learners at Jiyane High School receive sanitary pads

Bontle Burial Society donated hundreds of sanitary pads to vulnerable and underprivileged learners at Jiyane High School on October 7.

Organiser Thabo Moumakwe said the donation was part of the society’s mission.

Moumakwe said the organisation felt uncomfortable about how the girls suffer by not attending class due to their periods.

“We want to encourage girls to builds their self-confidence through education.

“We don’t promote a situation where girls feel rejected because of their social problems,” said Moumakwe.

He said their organisation aims to advise people on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“Our organisation aims to improve the life of the community by donating in every quarter of the year.

“We have sponsors, but we need others to support us,” said Moumakwe.

Moumakwe said he appreciates the community’s support and looks forward to assisting more girls.

Jiyane High School principal Christina Serumula said they appreciate the gifts from Bontle Burial Society.

She said learners were very excited when they received 10 boxes of sanitary pads.

“This shows how the community cares about our school. We will hand the pads over to any learner who needs them.

“We sometimes face challenges whereby learners experience their periods during lessons,” said Serumula.

She said girl children need support from the school and the community to overcome this challenge.

She said she looks forward to working with the Tembisa community.
