Birchleigh residents help chase down would-be burglars

The suspects’ car, a white City Golf, was confiscated as it had been used in the commission of a crime.

WITH the help of residents, two burglary suspects were caught on Elgin Road in Birchleigh on Tuesday.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, Rudi Botes from Cops Security responded to a burglary in progress on Elgin Road at 1.30pm.

“Upon arrival he saw two men jumping over a wall into another yard. Community members in the area witnessed the security officer chasing the men and jumped in to help. Both suspects were caught,” said Molokomme.

At the scene of the crime it was found that the back door had been forced open. When the owner arrived, she found nothing missing from the house.

A Norkem Park sector vehicle was called and the suspects were detained at the police station.

The suspects’ car, a white City Golf, was confiscated as it had been used in the commission of a crime, Molokomme said.

The two men, aged 39 and 42, will face a charge of attempted house break-in and theft.
