Usizwano Burial Society celebrated its 50th Anniversary at Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park on October 14.
Fikile Zwane said the Usizwano Burial Society was established in 1967 at 101 Welamlambo Section.
“The society started meeting at Gumede’s house. Members started paying 25 cents a month for the burial service.
In 1969 we created working relations with Govender Undertaker which is now known as Rand Funerals and our relationship still continues – even today,” said Zwane.
She said the majority of the initial members are no more.
“People who constitute Usizwano Burial Society’s membership is the generation of the late members.
This year we will continue to rendering services which incude providing tents, chairs, dishes, pots and transport.
The society has about 70 families who are members.
We feel very happy and want to show people that if we unite, everything is possible.
We have carried on the legacy of our late parents,” said Zwane.
