Kempton school scoops trophy at arts festival
Besides the trophy, there were various awards in the different pools and activities.
ALL 12 Taal-net schools, including schools from Zimbabwe, converged at Taalnet Beula Park in Meadowdale for an arts festival.
Students had the chance to showcase their skills and talents in the areas of arts and culture. This was done to enhance classroom curriculums through a variety of artistic and cultural disciplines.
Intercultural dialogue was enhanced, promoted and shared by the learners and the audience who attended the event. It was a very busy day packed with extraordinary and fantastic performances from the learners.
The activities comprised traditional and contemporary art forms of public speaking, traditional dance and drama. The public speaking poems were about South Africa’s liberation struggle, the second about encouraging and comforting orphans and children suffering from the effects of broken marriages.
The third was about child and women abduction and kidnapping, some ending in death and the fourth was about Taal-net – the education brand you can trust.
Drama was about educating and stimulating a rise in drug and alcohol abuse and peddling, school dropouts, abortion, child and women abuse and abduction and traditional dance.
Various stakeholders graced the occasion, including officials from the Ministry of Education.
The schools were put into five pools for them to compete among themselves and the Kempton School came out the overall winner, grabbing the trophy that went to Johannesburg last year.
