Reece wins rope climbing title

Two of Maranatha’s climbing club members competed in this semi-final and final competition.

A rope climber of Maranatha Christian School, Reece Caldwell, won the national top rope competition of the SA National Climbing Federation.

The event was hosted by Gauteng Climbing at the Barn, a climbing gym, on September 30.

Two of the school’s climbing club members, Reece and Raynier Erasmus, competed in this semi-final and final competition. The routes laid out for all age groups were really tough and climbers from all skill sets made it a challenging battle for the top three.

The atmosphere was tense at times but eventually, Reece and Raynier had their chance to show their skills and strengths on the wall. After two climbs only Reece moved to the finals where he secured a first place after reaching the highest points on the last and most difficult climbing route of the day.

Reece has been involved in this sport for only eight months.
