131 schools in Ekurhuleni are full for Grades One and Eight
These schools will not be able to accept late applications
WITH over 60 000 Grade One and Grade Eight learners still not placed for 2018, parents are urged to submit the necessary documentation by no later than October 31.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyasa Lesufi, on Sunday said 285 834 learners needed placement.
To date 222 378 of all applicants have been placed – 123 450 Grade One and 98 928 Grade Eight learners.
“A total of 63 456 applicants still need to be placed, of which 35 865 have not submitted documents to the schools. The department has plans to ensure that all applicants who applied on time are placed,” Lesufi said.
“Once more, an appeal is made to those applicants that have not yet submitted the required documents to do so. The applicants given offers of placement should respond before October 31 or they will forfeit such offers.”
The department is aware of the fact that some parents did not apply for their children during the application period. To assist such parents, the system will open for late applications from November 1 to 10. No new applications will be processed in January next year as schools are full.
Parents who have already applied and are awaiting placement must not re-apply. These parents must approach district offices for assistance.
“It is important to inform parents that several of our schools are full and cannot accept more learners.”
Of the 2 017 public schools that offer Grades One and Eight, 402 of these schools received applications beyond their school capacity and will not be available to parents to submit late applications.
In Ekurhuleni alone 131 schools are already full.
