
THE latest crime stats released by the Minister of Police show a sharp increase in hijackings in Kempton Park.
At the same time there was a slight decrease in house robberies, burglaries and car theft.

The latest statistics are for the period April 2016 to March 2017. For the purpose of this article, statistics for Kempton Park SAPS, Norkem Park SAPS and Sebenza SAPS were included.
Car hijackings have increased from 207 from April 2015 to March 2016, to 314 for the latest period.
House robberies have declined from 251 to 200, burglaries from 1 791 to 1 663 and car theft from 794 to 736.
The hard facts are:
Hijacking: There is almost one hijacking every day of the year.
House robberies: There is a house robbery almost every second day.
Burglaries: There are four burglaries a day.
Car theft: Two cars are stolen every day.
Thirty-six people have been murdered and there were 71 attempted murders in the city.
The figures for robbery and robbery with aggravating circumstances both showed an increase.
From April 2016 to March 2017, 496 cases of robbery were reported compared to 425 for the previous previous.
Robbery with aggravating circumstances increased from 1 321 to 1 458.
