Inkanyezi Theatre is a non-profit organisation comprising talented youths.
The organisation facilitates workshops at high schools in Tembisa to address social issues by staging a drama called Shattered Dreams.
The group challenge learners on controversial issues such as human trafficking, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy that affect them on a daily basis.
A leader of Inkanyezi Theatre, Tshepiso Sarelwa, says the main aim of their drama is to ensure learners are not involved in bad things that could damage their future.
Tsepiso believes that Inkanyezi Theatre could save the lives of many learners.
“Every day we see reports of abducted learners when they enter tertiary institutions. This is very challenging. We are not safe,” says Tshepiso.
Tshepiso said her crew wants to advise the youth on how to behave when facing difficult times.
“We are not trying to change anyone’s lifestyle. We all need money but let’s not allow it to damage our reputation,” says Tshepiso.
“I encourage learners to stay away from substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. There is no shortcut in life.”
She says youths must do research before becoming members of any organisation to avoid human trafficking.
“We have 13 youths in our Shattered Dreams play and I believe the 35 minutes play changes the lives of learners,” says Tshepiso.
