Second taxi accident leaves 15 more injured

The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have escaped injury

IN a second taxi accident on Monday morning 15 people were left injured.

The collision took place at the O’Reilly Merry and 11th Road intersection in Benoni when a taxi and truck collided.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene just after 8am to find both the taxi and truck in the middle of the road, Russel Meiring of ER24 said.

“The driver of the taxi was trapped inside his vehicle while the passengers had climbed out. Rescue services had to use the jaws of life to free the driver from the vehicle,” Meiring added.

Once freed, paramedics assessed the patients and found that 15 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.
