Kempton Park Primary School remains a pillar of the community

She said over the years the school had also seen some upgrades

KEMPTON Park Primary School went all out to celebrate its 70th birthday on October 16.

Located on Highveld Road, the school’s staff took time out of the classroom to enjoy the special day with the learners.

Speaking to EXPRESS, principal Lizette Louw, who has been at the helm for three years, said the school invited former principal Ian Lindsay to celebrate the seven-decade milestone.

The massive birthday cake was cut into 1 000 slices and shared among everyone at the school.

The school officially opened in 1947, with only 174 learners and six staff members. Today it has grown into a pillar of the community, accommodating 855 learners and 55 staff members.

During the celebrations, a cake from Cake Extreme was cut into 1 000 pieces to be shared among everyone.

“The 70th birthday was a big success. We are blessed to be part of Kempton Park Primary School. The learners were surprised with the big cake that was cut with the help of the former principal,” Louw said.

She said there were many more milestones the school would achieve in years to come.

Front row: Michelle Hopwood (HOD), Selokela Malema (deputy principal), Tertia Koch (HOD), Paul Vieira (Cake Extreme owner), Lizette Louw (principal), Faith Bosman (SGB chairperson).
Back row: Clementina Kiviet (HOD), Sheriza vd Berg (bursar), Ian Lindsay (former principal) and Cake Extreme assistant.

She said the school’s motto, “Aim High”, is instilled in every learner. “We truly are a family. We stick together,” Louw said.

She said over the years the school had also seen some upgrades.

“We have redone our netball courts, the whole school has wi-fi, we have implemented prefects and started going on trips.

“We would also like to convert all our classes to information and communications technology (ICT) rooms. We already have six classes that have interactive whiteboards and internet access.

“Young parents should start thinking of us as the school that will be able to provide a well-rounded education to children. We are a staff and school governing body (SGB) that really care about the well-being of our learners,” Louw added.
